What is mito?
Everyone has mitochondria in their cells. They provide 90% of the energy needed to sustain life. When your mitochondria don't work properly it can be life threatening. Mitochondrial disease (mito) is a devastating genetic disorder that robs the body’s cells of energy, often causing multiple organ dysfunction and failure.
Every cell is affected: Mito can impact every system in the body, as cells can’t generate the energy needed to function properly.
A silent thief: Mito symptoms often appear without warning and progress rapidly, as seen with Olly. Even children who seem healthy can suddenly experience life-threatening complications.
No cure yet: Despite being a devastating condition, there is currently no cure for mito. Treatments only manage symptoms, and research is urgently needed to discover life-saving therapies.
