Noah The Legend
This is Noah Barlow. My friend Kat and Mark’s Son. He’s a legend. 13 years old. An inspiration to kids and adults all over the world. A true warrior who never ceases to amaze, teach and inspire both the medical profession and society itself from top to bottom. Just have a quick read of a teeny tiny bit of what he’s endured since he entered this world…
- The medical world said reaching the age of 10 would be unlikely
- 6 years of vomiting 10-20 times a day.
- 7 years trying to find food his body would actually accept
- Hundreds and hundreds of seizures.
- 9 metabolic strokes (each one taking something) His eye sight in one eye, his ability to walk this time.
- Every system in his body is affected.
- No treatment.
- No cure.
- Reliance on new science and new medicine and new research to evolve into hope.
- Noah is currently the only living person in the world diagnosed with mitochondrial disorder - a rare genetic disease affecting every cell in his body. 1 child every week will be born with a life threatening form of MITO
'Every system fails'
"Mito is a really strange illness," adds Kat, his Mum. "From the top of your head to the bottom of your toes, it can affect every single part of it. "
"In Noah's case, he's got brain damage, is legally blind, he's fed through a tube 24/7 and he needs a wheelchair because as soon as he expends energy he starts to fall apart. It's a cascade of symptoms as every system fails at different times."
Soooooooo… mine and Adam’s little swims are an embarrassment to call a challenge really… but we’re going to swim for Noah and for MITO… and raise what we can for Noah and all connected / affected by MITOCHONDRIAL Disease which needs funding to research and understand this most difficult of human conditions.
