Betty's Story...
Betty struggled until the age of 82 with Mitochondrial Disease (mito) however never complained. She took good care of herself and exercised regularly to try to continue walking. Mito affected Betty's energy, muscles and nerves. She was often out of balance and struggled to walk, becoming immobile six months ago. Betty also lost her eyesight.
Betty was the most incredible person. She lived a good life and touched the hearts of all who crossed her path.
She continually raised money to support the Mito Foundation and our family have been involved in research programs to try to find a cure for mito.
Betty's mother Ada Towns (dec), sister Gwenith McKay (dec), brother Raymond Towns (dec), cousin Christine Billington (dec) and cousin Stephen Bolton (dec) all lived a life with mito.
